Create Mighty Heroes

Success, or failure, in leading your kingdom will be decided by how well you use your heroes’ skills when issuing them orders for each turn of the game. Some heroes, tactical experts or great leaders, will be your generals leading mighty armies against your opponents. Others may be great combatants, wielding weapons and spells against creatures lurking within dark caves and forgotten ruins. Both rely on the information gathered by your spies and explorers, roaming the world and reporting back on the wonders they find and the evil plots of your enemies.

Over time your heroes will improve their skills, becoming more competent in the activities that they spend most of their time on. An overseer travelling your lands resolving disputes and fixing wrongs will become more skilled at administration and deliver more gold to your treasury as a result. A hero who frequently casts spells will become less likely to miscast and gain the power to cast more powerful spells as their skills improve.

Experience a Living World

Heroic Kingdoms attempts to deliver a living world, whether procedurally generated or a pre-built map. Conquer a neighbouring land from its lord and that lord won’t just disappear. They will roam the world, working towards their own goals. You may find them working for your enemies in future, or fermenting revolt against you. If you talk smoothly enough, maybe they’ll change their mind and work for you instead!

Although your greatest rivals will be other kingdoms with diverse powers and heroes, the smaller neutral lands should not be underestimated, as a failed attack against a neutral realm may provoke a previously peaceful people into retaliation, or perhaps a necromancer will take power and start building an army of walking dead. The world’s creatures are also a concern, as they may develop a taste for raiding if left alone in your realm, causing mayhem and devastation which will reduce your income. More creatures may spawn, particularly if left unchecked and your lands descend into anarchy.
